Past Mistakes

“You are so perfect.” Unfortunately this statement can’t be possible, for nobody is pure perfection. Someone could be perfect in another eyes but the pure and perfect status only belongs to the Most High. Mistakes are not all that bad if one is learning from them.

“You should try this… i have and it doesn't work for me”

“I now know better than before”

“You’ve really grown since a few years ago”

Growing_Up_(2972489415).jpg

“You are so perfect.” Unfortunately this statement can’t be possible, for nobody is pure perfection. Someone could be perfect in another eyes but the pure and perfect status only belongs to the Most High. Mistakes are not all that bad if one is learning from them. If one knows that they are doing wrong, sacrifices will follow if they don’t change. In a way we must understand and ask ourselves about the actions and words we commit before turning and saying it was a mistake. As we grow up mistakes aren’t seen like when we were in our early years. They are seen as choices we must make everyday. When we look in the Bible, these individuals were humans at the core and some did commit mistakes yet they share with us lessons and ways to better ourselves.

In the book of James 3:2 it says

We all make many mistakes. A person who never said anything wrong would be perfect. Someone like that would be able to control their whole body.”

- James 3:2

This verse opens the chapter about controlling the things we do and say. When we look further in the book of Proverbs 13:18-19, it adds more context to what was mentioned earlier.

If you refuse to learn from your mistakes, you will be poor, and no one will respect you. If you listen when you are criticized, you will be honored. People are happy when they get what they want. But stupid people want nothing but evil, and they refuse to change.”

- Proverbs 13:18 - 19

Looking at both these verses, we see that they speak for themselves and could apply to any situation we may face in the world. Sins and mistakes are new concepts and there is nothing the Lord hasn't seen. Our role as passengers on earth is to stir away from making mistakes and having those choices that could push us more away from the kingdom. We must repent and ask for guidance to not repeat such things.

Take the time to reflect and evaluate yourself. Have you learned the lessons behind the actions or words you have once done. You may ask why revisit the past if the past is the past. Well as an individual you will never fully learn nor understand yourself and behavior if you haven't unpack what happened. Sometimes we say that we didn't know better however to some degree we were aware that whatever we did wasn't right. Nonetheless let's not take this forgiveness for granted and be aware that we must reevaluate yourself to better ourselves.

God's Not Dead 3: A Movie Review

God’s Not Dead is an American movie released in 2014, directed by Harold Cronk. It stars David A.R. White (The Encounter, Faith in our Father) in the evangelical drama. He shares the screen with Shane Harper (Good Luck Charlie, Dirty Dancing) and Benjamin A. Onyango (Freshman Year, God’s Not Dead) in this hour and six minute story about the ability to profess the name of the Lord, even in the darkest of times.

Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.  But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. (Matthew 10:32 - 33)

Spoiler Alert: some elements of the movie are discussed in this review. If you would like to watch it, it is available on Pureflix.

The story of God’s Not Dead 3 is the most streamlined of the entire series, with few minor story lines. After the imprisonment of Reverend David Hill (David A.R. White), the university begins the steps to remove the church from their grounds. The church is burned down by an atheist;  the fire kills Reverend Hill’s friend Jude (Benjamin A. Onyango). This, combined with suing the school to keep the school on the grounds, leads the preacher on a dark path in which he must find the light of Christ in his troubles.

While the movie was critically panned by many different reviewers, the message that is found within the movie is very practical and useful: letting God fight your battles. One of the Reverend’s major problems throughout the entire story is that he did not confide in the Father, preferring to act in His name without consulting Him. It’s only when He truly removes himself from his high horse and humbles himself in prayer that he is able to hear the Father speak to Him and tell him what he has to do. The story of his biblical namesake, David, is proof of how important it is:

In the course of time, David inquired of the Lord. “Shall I go up to one of the towns of Judah?” he asked.

The Lord said, “Go up.”

David asked, “Where shall I go?”

“To Hebron,” the Lord answered.

- 2 Samuel 2:1

David inquired and waited for Him to answer. There is never a time when the voice of the Father, YHWH, should not be in your ears and His word n your heart. They give you direction and life.

In the end, the movie is a powerful lesson, teaching true believers must be willing to listen to the Father at all times, for He knows all and knows what is best for His plans. We must remember what Proverbs 2:1 - 5 says: “My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”

Fitting in and Standing Out

Peer pressure is a term we all hear before that our minds subconsciously goes to thinking about students. However peer pressure is seen in society, family, churches, it's everywhere and with that comes the concept of attention.

“You should totally hop on this new trend”

“You are probably the only one...that’s actually cool”

“You’re the first”

8706522360_7bae303f23_b.jpg

Peer pressure is a term we all hear before that our minds subconsciously goes to thinking about students. However peer pressure is seen in society, family, churches, it's everywhere and with that comes the concept of attention. Sometimes hopping on the new flex is because of the attention behind. The same is when it's the opposite, it's the lack of brought up attention. Nonetheless, God didn't not create every human to be similar because then the unique wouldn't apply to neither of us. People are going to talk regardless. It is probably something we must learn to register and not let it hold too much energy on us. Therefore, if we hop on the new trend it must be because we need to better ourselves and not want it. Knowing the difference will go a long way.

Looking at three books, we will see how each part are puzzles to the bigger picture. Starting with the verse of John 15:18-19 says:

If the world hates you, remember that they hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as it loves its own people. But I have chosen you to be different from those in the world. So you don’t belong to the world, and that is why the world hates you.

- John 15:18 -19

To read further we look at Galatians 6:7-8

“If you think you can fool God, you are only fooling yourselves. You will harvest what you plant. If you live to satisfy your sinful self, the harvest you will get from that will be eternal death. But if you live to please the Spirit, your harvest from the Spirit will be eternal life.

- Galatians 6:7 - 8

The verse of Hebrew 13:5 concludes it with “Keep your lives free from the love of money. And be satisfied with what you have. God has said, “I will never leave you; I will never run away from you.”

All these verses highlight the same theme of embracing what the Lord has for each and one of us. We must however do the work in finding and discovering ourselves without getting lost in the noise of school, society, family and church.  Take the time to further read the passages presented above and evaluate yourself. Are you fitting in for a purpose or is standing out your way of diverting the attention to what is important.

The Feast of Tabernacle: Pilgrimage (Part II)

Last week, Bible 101 began to present something really interesting: the Feast of Tabernacle. They covered all of the basics of the feast and what it means to the ancient Israelites. More than just that, they presented the idea that the ancient Israelites would go to Jerusalem, to the temple, to celebrate the Feast as they lived in tents.

“What is the Feast of Tabernacle?”

“Why should I celebrate it?”

‘“What does it mean for me?”

Even though the second temple was destroyed, we can imagine that it was an impressive sight, to see all of the thousands of people living in tents around the city of Jerusalem and near the Temple.

What they did in Jerusalem during that time is pretty simple, and can be replicated even to this day: celebrate. While we don’t need to bring the sacrifice, as Yeshua is our sacrifice, we can still do what Leviticus 23:40 tells us to do: “Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days.” Therefore, we should sing praises and worship to the Father during this feast of joy!

If that isn’t enough, allow me to present to you why we should. The book of Deuteronomy 28:1 - 5 says: If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock-the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed”. Following the Law and the Feasts that He has established for us is amazing! Count the fact that this feast is meant to celebrate the end of harvest - both spiritually and physically, we are bound to truly meet the Father and commune with Him during these times, something better than any blessing!

In conclusion, the feast of the Tabernacle is a blessing that all followers of Christ should follow. It is the end of the feasts in YHWH’s calendar, but not the end of celebrations. We celebrate the wonderful caregiver and savior that He is everyday of our lives. All we have to do is be there when He asks us to be.

Forgiveness

In the following days, one of the Seven feasts of the Lord will be lived. That feast is called the Feast of Atonement. Many of us already know what atonement is, but for those who don’t, it’s forgiveness. It’s a time to be open about our mistakes and to come to the Lord with the things that we have done against Him, but also against the people around us.

“They’ve done too much to me...”

“I’m sorry”

“I apologize for what I  have done to you”

In the following days, one of the Seven feasts of the Lord will be lived. That feast is called the Feast of Atonement. Many of us already know what atonement is, but for those who don’t, it’s forgiveness. It’s a time to be open about our mistakes and to come to the Lord with the things that we have done against Him, but also against the people around us. Forgiveness isn’t an easy task and it is one that isn’t given to everyone: therefore it’s important to be reminded of what that means on a yearly basis. If that is done, then we can never forget the humanity that connects us all to one another and the fact that we all can make mistakes.

When we come to the Father with our sins, we ask for His grace so that He can forgive us. It’s in that case that we apologize and repent, in an effort to do better. Christ talks about it a lot in the Gospel: his first messages were truly only about repentance. But the time that verse that encapsulates it in full is found in Matthew 6:12, when he says: Forgive our sins, just as we have forgiven those who did wrong to us. If you decide to forgive someone completely, for what they’ve done to you, then that is what the Father will do for you. If you decide to never forgive someone else, the Father will never forgive you.

This makes your job this week very difficult. It means you have to take the time to forgive those who have wronged you. At the same time, you have to find the people that you have wronged and to ask them for forgiveness as well. It’s a simple equation where everyone forgives everyone and moves on. This is exemplified in Colossians 3:13, when it is written: Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

Take the time this week to truly understand what forgiveness means and entail for you, based on biblical scripture. There are many verses about ité This feast is meant to bring you closer to the Father and so that you may have a relationship with Him. You cannot go before Him with a guilty conscience or someone else's conscience having not been relieved. It’s time to let go, for them and yourself.  God will forgive your wickedness and will remember your sins no more (Hebrews 8:12).

Love For Your Enemies

But I tell you, love your enemies. Pray for those who treat you badly” Matthew 5:44. There might be time when we read this verse, we felt at odds. Humans are complex individuals with that we can’t forget that our emotions and feelings are not immune.

“Ever since that incident we don't talk anymore”

“Didn't you and so and used to be friends… nah they my enemies now”

“HATE”

But I tell you, love your enemies. Pray for those who treat you badly” Matthew 5:44. There might be time when we read this verse, we felt at odds. Humans are complex individuals with that we can’t forget that our emotions and feelings are not immune. As much as they can be problematic such as misleading us in certain situations , they will happen and we will fill it one way or another. Some are better than others but nonetheless they are present. The point here is even when someone has done you wrong whether it be in a relationship, friendship or family, we can't let that emotions or feeling dictate the long term end goals. God wouldn't allow that.

The Bible is a book with many stories that touch upon everything and anything in lessons and parables. The words used are powerful in how we should live our life to become better. Notably, there is:

he priest will say, ‘Men of Israel, listen to me! Today you are going against your enemies in battle. Don’t lose your courage. Don’t be troubled or upset. Don’t be afraid of the enemy. The Lord your God is going with you to help you fight against your enemies. He will help you win!’ And in Leviticus 19:17-18 “Don’t secretly hate any of your neighbors. But tell them openly what they have done wrong so that you will not be just as guilty of sin as they are.Forget about the wrong things people do to you. Don’t try to get even. Love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

- Deuteronomy 20:3-4

download (11).jpg

What these verses have in common is to not let evil defeat you, but defeat evil. On one side we see and can understand with our human mind that enemies are those who did us wrong. However on the flip side, we see that despite the wrong we must not hate them but rather forgive them and show them the love that they may have been missing. No one says that this process of growth is easy but this is why we pray and ask for guidance in how to maneuver around it.

Take the time to reflect and identify how to control these emotions and feelings when they take the best of us. Now everyone’s situation is different but examine within yourself to forgive and appreciate those that may have done you wrong. As we have all heard, hater are going to hate. He didn't send his only son at the cross for us to not move past a wrong doing of our neighbor. Romans 5:10 “I mean that while we were God’s enemies, he made friends with us through his Son’s death. And the fact that we are now God’s friends makes it even more certain that he will save us through his Son’s life.”

Failure

Failure is part of life. In a way that’s how we learn otherwise the expression trial and errors would never be a thing. If we take a little trip down memory lane for some, we may remember this little rhythm sang in the playground.

I can't do it anymore

You definitely can't do it

Failure is part of life. In a way that’s how we learn otherwise the expression trial and errors would never be a thing. If we take a little trip down memory lane for some, we may remember this little rhythm sang in the playground. “First is the worst, Second is the best '' However as kids sometimes we don't know better. As we grow up, that little rhythm no longer makes sense because it was all gibberish. It doesn't matter how many times you have to do something as long as you make it. From there, then you find newer ways to push yourself towards improvement.

James 1:2-6 states :

My brothers and sisters, you will have many kinds of trouble. But this gives you a reason to be very happy. You know that when your faith is tested, you learn to be patient in suffering. If you let that patience work in you, the end result will be good. You will be mature and complete. You will be all that God wants you to be.Do any of you need wisdom? Ask God for it. He is generous and enjoys giving to everyone. So he will give you wisdom. But when you ask God, you must believe. Don’t doubt him. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is blown up and down by the wind.”

- James 1:2 - 6

What we can take away from this passage of James  is that failure is part of the process but it’s useless if there aren't actions to seek guidance to learn from it and figure out the core reasons. Just like the saying fool me once, shame on you but fool me twice shame on me. If we continue to repeat the same actions or words without identifying that there was no improvement, we are working in circles. Take the time this week to evaluate what went wrong in your projects or in what you are working on. Are you finding newer ways or just repeating the same things over and over. Change is good and is part of the growth. Are you seeking guidance and help? Once you have identify the wrong doings, you now know better to do better.

Boys to Men

I will be frankly and brutally honest with you: I cannot tell you how young I was the first time that I was told to “man up”. All I can say is that I was really young when I first started hearing the other men in my life tell me stuff like that.

“Be a man”

“Man up”

“You aren’t a boy anymore!”

I will be frankly and brutally honest with you: I cannot tell you how young I was the first time that I was told to “man up”. All I can say is that I was really young when I first started hearing the other men in my life tell me stuff like that. It’s only when I grew up, like many of the  people who are reading this, that I really started to question what that meant. The only place that I thought was worth listening to in this case was the Bible: what does the Bible have to say about being a man.

There are two verses that highlight it very well for me. The first verse comes in 1 Corinthians 16:3 - 4:

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

- 1 Corinthians 16:3 - 4

The second verse in question is Psalms 1:1 - 2

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

- Psalms 1:1 - 2

Looking at both these verses, I saw two simple things that I believe that can turn a boy into a man. We need to have qualities such as strength and bravery, as I was told when I was child, but it has to be done in love. These qualities need to all be done in love. The second thing, which ties with the first one, is that love can only come from the Father, who teaches us all things through His word.

Take the time to reflect and evaluate yourself. If you’re a boy, are you turning into the man that the world wants you to be or the one that The Lord wants you to be? Do you base your growth around the Word of God or the word of man? If you’re a girl, how can you help the boys in your life become righteous men? I believe that it takes the help of all of us to become the person that the Father wants us to be.

Beauty

We’ve all heard these words in our daily life but as we are taught in school, words and sentences have multiple meanings. When we say beauty, is it meant to be said about our external looks?

“You are so beautiful”

“I just love the way…”

“Beauty hurts…”

happy-place-united-states-los-angeles-boots.jpg

We’ve all heard these words in our daily life but as we are taught in school, words and sentences have multiple meanings. When we say beauty, is it meant to be said about our external looks? Most of the time that’s how we interpret it.  Do we ever think maybe beauty isn't our amazing highlight,  our new Jordans, new blouse or new pursue. Maybe the beauty we must start interpreting is our mind, our soul and our heart. To say the least the Lord and even the world mentions how outside beauty does not last.

It is not fancy hair, gold jewelry, or fine clothes that should make you beautiful. No, your beauty should come from inside you—the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. That beauty will never disappear. It is worth very much to God.

- 1 Peter 3:3-4

Bringing it back to Genesis 1:27, “So God created humans in his own image. He created them to be like himself. He created them male and female. Pretty straightforward that beauty encompasses our whole being and not just a section. Sometimes we get side tracked because those earrings, those Nike 90 or that DG belt makes the individual wearing it beautiful or handsome. Don't get blindsided.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Eliab is tall and handsome, but don’t judge by things like that. God doesn’t look at what people see. People judge by what is on the outside, but the Lord looks at the heart. Eliab is not the right man.

- 1 Samuel 16:7

Take the time to reflect on your inner beauty and ways to strengthen it back to the way the Lord created you. The same way we make time, save money and grind hard for the new trends, we must take that same energy and turn it over to our heart, our mind and our soul. Without inner beauty, everything else is just a bonus waiting to be added to worth.

God's Not Dead 2: A Movie Review

Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. (Matthew 10:32 - 33)

God's_Not_Dead_2_poster.jpg

God’s Not Dead 2 is an American movie released in 2016, directed by Harold Cronk. It stars Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Melissa & Joey), Jesse Metcalfe (Passions, Desperate Housewives) in the evangelical drama. They share the screen with David A.R. White (The Encounter, Faith in our Father) and Benjamin A. Onyango (Freshman Year, God’s Not Dead) in this hour and twenty minute story about the ability to profess the name of the Lord, even in the darkest of times.

Unlike the first God’s Not Dead movie, this one is a much more clear cut story, with much smaller subplots that accentuate the story. AP History teacher Grace Wesley (Melissa Joan Hart) is brought to court when she answers a history question about peaceful protest in class with a rational answer of Jesus. She is defended by her lawyer, Tom Endler (Jesse Metcalfe). All the while, the child who asked the question, Brooke Thawley (Hayley Orrantia) is figuring out her own faith, as well as Matin Yip (Paul Kwo), a friend of Josh who is inquisitive on the faith and asks the help of Reverend David Hill.

The major lesson from the movie is the resounding theme of the ability to profess your faith. However, what’s important to know as being different is how far will one go for the faith and YHWH. The Word says in John 3:19 that:

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

- John 3:19

It is normal for people of this world to hate the light of Yeshua and the peace that comes from it because they do not know it and refuse to partake in it. Believing in Him may mean that you will lose some to darkness, but it is worth it for one day in the presence of the Lord (Psalms 84:10). She adds an adage that is not in the bible, but is very popular: I would rather be judged by the world than judged by God.

The Bible is filled with people who go through extreme hardships. One of the great examples is Job: through sickness and death, he continued to trust in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. His faith did not fail and he ended up having more than he could’ve ever had before.

In the end, the movie is a powerful lesson, teaching true believers must be willing to fight for the faith at all times. Plus, they must be willing to lose physical things, even some friends, if it means defending YHWH and standing firm in the faith. We must remember that the Apostles and first martyrs died for the Lord that they believed in (Matthew 10:28). We must be able to present the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in everything that we can do, and to say that God’s Not Dead.

Suicide

Continuing with our awareness on mental health and how it impact our life or those close to us, we take today to touch upon suicide something that has also been around. Suicide can be very taboo for some, leading to the lack of knowing what to say or how to react.

Warning: Mature Subject Matter

“I can’t take it anymore”

“Just maybe if…”

“There’s nothing left here for me anyway”

sad-boy-walking-walking-alone-sad-alone-boy-preview.jpg

Continuing with our awareness on mental health and how it impact our life or those close to us, we take today to touch upon suicide something that has also been around. Suicide can be very taboo for some, leading to the lack of knowing what to say or how to react. One can’t set aside the fact that such an act happened. Nonetheless, we must be aware of how our words are said. An important aspect is to remember the Lord’s words. Even when you feel like everything is falling apart, He has not abandoned you. Maybe it was meant to be because the foundation you once built wasn't enough. Therefore He has to rebuild it with you.

“I say this because I know the plans that I have for you.” This message is from the Lord. “I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future.

- Jeremiah 29:11”

We talked about foundation a while back and spoke about how we must be aware of what we are feeding ourselves to produce good fruits. The same here as well. We must be able to identify the roots and trigger because nothing happens out of nowhere. For example, the rain the Lord made happen in Genesis. Noah knew and even told people, they just didn't listen until it was too late.

“In the same way, my words leave my mouth, and they don’t come back without results. My words make the things happen that I want to happen. They succeed in doing what I send them to do.

- Isaiah 55:11”

Identifying the origin will always help in seeking and asking for the proper guidance.

people-man-sitting-alone.jpg

Continue to take time meditating during the week to identify the roots. Writing them is a good way to physically see them. Even if you feel like nobody is in your corner and that you are fighting in a boxing ring with no support nor fans, you are not alone. The Lord is there for you and has not forgotten you. You may not feel it but he is present, sometimes you just get in tune with yourself and invite him to one of your meditation sessions. His time slots are always open.“Give your worries to the Lord, and he will care for you. He will never let those who are good be defeated. Psalms 55:22”.

If you or anyone you know is battling with suicide, know that wherever there’s a shadow, there is light. That light are people willing to listen and help. You are bigger than the thief stealing your happiness. “A thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But I came to give life—life that is full and good. John 10:10”.

Depression

Last month, mental health was introduced. We discussed that it encompasses many different layers. Today, we bring awareness to depression. Whether one wants to believe this is real or not, we must remember that one individual reality is not the same as another one. We may all live in this society, see the same thing, experience similar situations but at the end of day every experience is different to every individual. Now what happens when you have asked the Lord for help, guidance, intelligence, comprehension and everything in the book but still nothing? So be humble under God’s powerful hand. Then he will lift you up when the right time comes. Give all your worries to him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7” The answers lie in whether you’ve been true to yourself and Lord as well as asking correctly.

If we look back a few months, we spoke about facing the future and sometimes we plan to plan without making an actual plan. What exactly does that mean? It means we want things others may have and want it for ourselves without thinking whether or not it will do us any good. Therefore, this pressure starts to take over and we self-doubt or question everything we are doing. It is always better to do it right than to rush goodness to make it right. “that God will strengthen you with his own great power so that you will be patient and not give up when troubles come. Then you will be happy Colossians 1:11”

This week, meditate on your life, your plan and your project you have for yourself. Really evaluate them and ask yourself is the Lord at the center or core of all of it? Am I planning without an actual plan? What are the triggers I am ignoring? Write them down and reflect. Pray for peace and understanding to no longer have that list take over your mind, body and soul.

I leave you peace. It is my own peace I give you. I give you peace in a different way than the world does. So don’t be troubled. Don’t be afraid.

- John 14:27 ERV

If you or anyone you know is battling with depression or this unknown feeling, set your worries aside because you are bigger than these worries. Plus they are only as powerful as you give them. Mediate Philippians 4:6-7 and Deuteronomy 31:8 to strengthen you as you pray.

Holy Spirit and Pentecost

"If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth […]” (John 14:15 - 18)

"If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth […]” (John 14:15 - 18)

The person of the Holy Spirit is one of the many things that we are meant to enjoy every single day. While we will celebrate the feast of Pentecost - the time of the year that we remember how the Holy Spirit can come dwell in us and be with us - it’s great to know who He is for us as believers. What does the Holy Spirit mean to us in our everyday lives?

Let’s start in what should be the appropriately titled Genesis. The Father, as He created man; in that moment, He gave man the Holy Spirit through the breath of life (Genesis 2:7). This means that when you are created by the Father and chosen by Him, you can receive the Holy Spirit. This is a reality that is seen multiple times throughout the Old Testament. In fact, the Lord says in the book of Exodus that:

Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep and guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.

- Exodus 23:20

That was the Holy Spirit. The Father sends the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him and obey Him (Luke 11:13, Acts 5:32). It’s all we need. Consequently, what does that mean for us in our daily lives?

If I were to give you context:

Let’s say that you have an opportunity to go hang out with your friends after school or work, but you know that you have stuff to do at home and prayer in the evening. The choice is yours, as all people have free will. If you allow the Holy Spirit to show you what the Father wants you to do, then you will go home and raincheck, knowing your time with the Father YHWH is imperative to your life.

That was an easy example.

But let’s say that you did go out with your friends to all hours of the night. You didn’t do anything that you were supposed to do at home and you completely missed your time of prayer. The time that you had consecrated to the Father, to your intimacy with Him, was given to your friends instead. You ignored what the Holy Spirit asked you to do and went out with your friends. In this situation, the Holy Spirit will remind you (John 14:26) of what you did and will put that guilt inside of you, making you want to ask for forgiveness and repent.

In truth, the Holy Spirit is meant to be a helper to us; bringing us closer to the Father with every choice that we make. The Feast of Pentecost is the time designated by the Lord so that we may understand that and truly appreciate the Father YHWH for sending us help to live a life we cannot live without Him.

Mental Health

Mental health: an official term given to the unconscious battle we all face daily. One thing we must be aware of is whatever we see in the world today is not new. They’ve been around for centuries and the only difference between centuries ago and now is it’s more presence.

“I don't feel like anything today”

“I just don't know what to do anymore”

“Feel like nothing, i tried everything and nothing….nothing works”

swagger-1565642_1280.jpg

Mental health: an official term given to the unconscious battle we all face daily. One thing we must be aware of is whatever we see in the world today is not new. They’ve been around for centuries and the only difference between centuries ago and now is it’s more presence. Just like mental health. We must understand that this concept must be talked about and discussed. Because not talking about something does not mean it doesn't exist. Now mental health comes in different shapes and form as well as severity.

One could say that anything related to mental health is an evil spirit taking over one’s body, mind and soul. However, we must not ignore the fact that it is real. What must one do to avoid such or better yet not fall into this hole. A well known verse about rest is found in Matthew 11:28 “Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest.” Here the implication is whenever you feel like the life you are living is getting too much to handle to simply lay them out to the Father. He will take care of it but one must not forget to ask for guidance first before just giving it away. For example, a child will do trial and error in an attempt to find out new tactics before asking their parents for help. It’s the same situation here.

But what if I've asked and given it all away but I see no change? This is where the practice of patience comes in. Not everything is done in the blink of an eye nor in an explicit act. Sometimes the changes are done throughout the smallest things to complete the bigger picture.

This week, take the time to evaluate yourself and how you handle your battles. Even war is combated with a team because one person can't save everyone. Take the time to meditate and ask for guidance and help with your battles. As well as the gift of patience. Once taken the time, live day by day and you will experience change. “Don’t worry—I am with you. Don’t be afraid—I am your God. I will make you strong and help you. I will support you with my right hand that brings victory Isaiah 41:10”

If you or anyone is battling with mental health, keep fighting because you are bigger than your battles.

Clothes for Church

There are some conversations that are bound to pop up in any group of believers. One of the most controversial ones is clothing. It’s a part of our everyday lives since we wear them everyday. They represent us and show the world who we are and what we stand for. Therefore, it’s important. Some would argue that to go to Church, the house of prayer and worship that the Lord made, that we need to be dressed to the nines. While others would argue that it is not the outwear that is important, but how our hearts are. Both are supported by scripture, but which one is correct?

But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. (Titus 3:9)

Let’s begin with those who say that it’s important to be very well dressed to go to church. The arguments for it are littered a little everywhere in the Bible. One of the main arguments can be found in 1 Corinthians 6:20:

For you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

- 1 Corinthians 6:20

That would mean that we are supposed to truly be well dressed, but however, we must also be modest. Women are often the target of this, but it applies to men too. This can notably be seen in 1 Timothy 2:9, when he says “Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire.”

On the other side of the debate, there are those who say that the attire does not matter: it’s more a question of your heart. Some go to the sayings of the Lord to Samuel, when He said “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). They compound that with 1 Peter 3:34 to make their argument:

Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.

- 1 Peter 3:34

With both sides presented, I will say my personal opinion: both are right. We should adorn ourselves with clothes that are clean and proper, but also we must prepare our hearts to meet the Lord. Humiliate ourselves to Him, for He is holy and bought us at a high price. But I will also caution others: do not judge on the merits of clothes. This is self-explanatory after reading James 2:1 - 9 in its entirety. It’s very important to understand that so that we do not fall to sin.

Clothes should not be a question of debate or major questioning, as we are all on this quest to YHWH and trying to love and understand Him. Avert your eyes from your neighbor and turn your eyes towards Him.

Feast of First Fruits: Consecrating the First

The world seems to be obsessed with the number 1, has anyone else realized that? First birthday. First baby tooth lost. First championship. First born. Whenever there’s a first for anything in life, it’s regarded as special. In fact, that reality isn’t just reserved to the World: it’s a fully biblical concept. The feast of First Fruits is one of the seven feasts that was explained in Leviticus 23, and today, why we should consecrate our firsts to God is important.

The LORD said to Moses, “Consecrate to me every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether man or animal. (Exodus 13:1 - 2)

Last year, we talked about this concept but in very little detail. Therefore, we will dive into it and try to truly grasp what that means. This can be done by examining two case studies: when you do consecrate and when you do not:

One of the most underrated consecrations of the first born in the Bible is the story of Samuel. We must always remember the fact that Hannah was barren and ridiculed because of it (1 Samuel 1:2, 4 - 7). It’s in that emotion that she murmured as she prayed, begging God to have a child that she would consecrate to Him (1 Samuel 1:11, 22). The results of her faith in Yahweh and consecration led to Samuel, but also to the birth of many more children (1 Samuel 2:21). Samuel also won as well, becoming a servant of the Lord for the nation of Israel who would become a prophet (1 Samuel 3:20) and even lead his brothers into war against the Philistines. The consecration of one child led to the happiness and joy of many more to come, from his siblings to his kin.

The_Story_of_Cain_and_Abel_(Bible_Card).jpg

On the other hand, there is the story of those who aren’t consecrated. The most notorious of all first born children has to be Cain. As many can recall, the book of Genesis talks about how Yahweh did not want his sacrifice, but preferred that of his younger sibling, Abel (Genesis 4:5). It’s interesting to note that Abel sacrificed “fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock”, having understood what that meant and being a shadow of things to come. Cain would be so angry that he would proceed to kill his own brother. That murder would lead to him being cursed by God, who said:

Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.

- Genesis 4:11 - 12

All of this is a result of the lack of consecration. Abel was killed and Cain was cursed. Everyone lost, because the first of anything sets the precedent for everything that follows it.

In conclusion, the power of the first is important. Through a simple read through of the stories of Samuel and Cain, it is easy to understand that consecrating the first of anything is essential to the success of that new stage of life. While both examples were seen in parenthood, this reality extends to all fields of life, as God is complete in His fullness and love.

Passover and the Lamb

Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. (1 Corinthians 5:7)

Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. (1 Corinthians 5:7)

Yahweh, the Lord of Hosts, calls His children and His elect to be presented to Him at specific times of the year, that He appoints. There are weekly Sabbaths, held on the Seventh Day, true believers cannot forget the Seven Feasts of the Lord. Explained in order in Leviticus 23, the seven Feasts are holy convocations, appointed times in which the Holy God of Israel presents Himself to His children to give them what they need. The first of these is the feast of Passover.

Last year, the general idea of the Feast was established in our Passover article. This year, the concept of the Lamb will be explored with depth.

In the twelfth chapter of the book of Exodus, we are told of the Passover of the Lord. The third verse to the thirteenth verse are very explicit on the lamb that is supposed to be used for the Feast. In summary, they are to have one per family, one year old males without defects, roasted and eaten with haste (Exodus 12:3 - 13). The blood of the lamb would be put on the door frames to protect the Israelites from the Lord, who would strike down on enemies of the Israelites (Exodus 12:13). From then, it was meant to be lived in perpetuity by the children of Israel, as explained in the verse:

“This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.”

- Exodus 12:14

lamb-passover-schäfchen-cute.jpg

Passover represented many of the things that the Messiah would come and do. Being an unblemished male lamb, like Christ who did not sin (Hebrews 4:15, 1 John 3:5), our sins could be put on them. The families of Israel would choose a lamb, while the Lord chose Yeshua to be His sacrifice for the sins of those who followed Him in truth (John 1:36, John 3:16). This sacrifice is an eternal one that would be too big for any one animal to take. The blood of the lamb would protect from death, while the blood of Christ gave life (Revelations 1:5 - 6; Hebrews 13:12).

The Lamb of God is generally a complex topic that is often repeated and given in many churches, but what astounds many is the fact that is still meant to be lived. The feast of Passover is meant to symbolize your passing over from death to life (Exodus 12). True believers who follow Yahweh in truth must acknowledge the importance of the feasts, which He wanted us to live in perpetuity (Leviticus 23:1 - 2, 41). We cannot claim that Yeshua is our Passover lamb, who died for our sins and gave His life for ours, if we do not ourselves proclaim that He is Lord by celebrating this Feast of Passover.

God's Not Dead: A Movie Review

Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. (Matthew 10:32 - 33)

God’s Not Dead is an American movie released in 2014, directed by Harold Cronk. It stars Shane Harper (Good Luck Charlie, Dirty Dancing) and Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Light in the Darkness) in the evangelical drama. He shares the screen with David A.R. White (The Encounter, Faith in our Father) and Benjamin A. Onyango (Freshman Year, God’s Not Dead) in this hour and thirteen minute story about the ability to profess the name of the Lord, even in the darkest of times.

The story of God’s Not Dead is multifaceted, with many divergent storylines. The major one is the debate between freshman believer Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper) and atheist Professor Jeffery Radisson (Kevin Sorbo). They debate the existence of God Yahweh in a philosophy classroom which impacts students within the university until it reaches out far beyond. There are illnesses as well as transitions of faith that happen within the movie that add to the final adage of “God’s Not Dead”.

The major lesson from the movie is the resounding theme of the ability to profess your faith. Every believer struggles with this concept in some form or another. The protagonist, Josh, questions the idea of processing and debating the faith in his class, to the point of accepting to lose his longtime girlfriend. He bases himself on Matthew 10:32 - 33, which can be summarized to whoever acknowledges Christ will be acknowledged by Him when He speaks to the Father. Ayisha (Hadeel Sittu), turns her life over to Christ, after having lived in a Muslim house her entire life; she struggles with being open about her faith, knowing her parents would disapprove. The Bible says in Psalm 27:10:

For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.

- Psalm 27:10

The beauty of the message is powerful. We must be ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20) in everything that we do and be willing to testify His holy name to people. There is truth in Yeshua, for He is the truth and the way, as presented by John 14:6. While others may deem at being too preachy and stereotypical, it is worth it for the message.

In the end, the movie is a powerful lesson, teaching true believers must be willing and able to defend the faith at all times. We must remember that the Apostles and first martyrs died for the Lord that they believed in (Matthew 10:28). We must be able to present the Lord of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in everything that we can do, and to say that God’s Not Dead.

The Father's Plans for the Future

From birth we are always told what would like to be what would you like to do. It is shoved down our throat. We are taught to always have a plan in sight. But sometimes we plan with no plan. What is meant by that is we want things for our life without help and our answers are “I just want it '' But why?

“I can't wait for what will come”

“It kinda terrifies me of what is next”

“Day by day going with the flow...no worry in sight”

baby-newborn-face-portrait.jpg

From birth, we are always told what we would like to be, what would you like to do. It is shoved down our throats. We are taught to always have a plan in sight. But sometimes, we plan with no plan. What is meant by that is we want things for our life without help and our answers are “I just want it.'' But why? Is it meant for you? Is it because others have it? All these questions start to arise. And sometimes we can still have a plan and be terrified of the unknown. Yet, again the Lord is still there with the help to guide, the ears to listen and His being to ask when troubled.

We will look at two similar verses from two different books.

“I say this because I know the plans that I have for you.” This message is from the Lord. “I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future.”

- Jeremiah 29:11

And

Trust the Lord completely, and don’t depend on your own knowledge. With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way.”

- Proverbs 3:5-6

download (9).jpg

What we can take away from these verses is pretty straightforward. The Bible is filled with stories that make us ask ourselves if the people ever worried about what was next. The people of Israel walked around for 40 years, the handicap was paralyzed for 38 years, the lady with the blood was suffering for 12 years. Yes, to some degree these are intense but nonetheless the underlying story shows that they still had the hope of tomorrow regardless of their situation and circumstances.

Take the time this week to reflect on things that may worry you. Remember that nothing is greater than our Lord and his words. Proverbs 16:3-4 Turn to the Lord for help in everything you do, and you will be successful. The Lord has a plan for everything. In his plan, the wicked will be destroyed.”

Social Justice

Social justice, what does that mean? While a literal meaning is the conflict between individual and society, it's actually whenever there's some sort of misunderstanding.

“God + Individual + Society = ???”

“Violence and violence won’t solve anything”

“Everyone likes to say stay woke… but are they?

images (1).jpg

Social justice, what does that mean? While a literal meaning is the conflict between individual and society, it's actually whenever there's some sort of misunderstanding. A recent example is what has happened in the Black Lives Matter movement and the death of George Floyd. Injustice, unfortunately, happens more than we know. Now for some believers, social justice is the conflict between society, the individuals and The Father. Yup, what an equation. We are aware that God is not one for violence yet is one of peace.

The Bible is full of stories about the violence that was happening and what the lord taught about it. To break it down even to the simplest form, the commandment states to not kill. So what can we do during this time. In the book of Isaiah 1:17, it states: “Learn to do good. Treat people fairly. Punish those who hurt others. Speak up for the widows and orphans. Argue their cases for them in court.” In doing this we can say that in the book of Micah, it shows us the response

“Human, the Lord has told you what goodness is. This is what he wants from you: Be fair to other people. Love kindness and loyalty, and humbly obey your God.”

- Micah 6:8

download (8).jpg

Individual + society + god, what does this equation mean for you? It's not enough to ignore one and work with the rest. In a way we must work with all. In doing so we learn how to walk as the lord walks with his people during difficult times. During this week, reflect on how you practice the good outline in the Bible, how do let others know that everything will be fine when all they see is the negative. How do you let them know that after the storm there will be a rainbow as an outcome.

The Lord's ways of doing things and reuniting as a whole is greater than one can expect. As He has a union and by all necessary means we must seek it. Proverbs 31:8-9 “Speak up for people who cannot speak for themselves. Help people who are in trouble. Stand up for what you know is right, and judge all people fairly. Protect the rights of the poor and those who need help.”
