God's Time (Part 1)

1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens, 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot (Ecclesiastes 3:1 - 2)

Time is one of those core concepts that we are taught as a kid: how to read a clock, having to wait until dinner time to eat, bed time, but to name a few. As one grows in life and in all aspects, understanding how to manage one’s time becomes an essential part of making it in today’s world. The life of someone who takes the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob seriously is one that must understand that there is time that is designed specifically for Him: the one that He made and the one that you make.

Understanding that Yahweh has time that is designed for Him begins with understanding that He is the master of both time and circumstances (Daniel 2:21). As the creator of all things (Colossians 1:13), Elohim stands outside of time, seeing both the beginning and end as the Alpha and the Omega (Revelations 22:13). In that capacity, He controls time - what happens when, what we are to live and to celebrate, when things are meant to happen.

An important passage of the Bible, James 4:3, “You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions” is partly due to the fact that many people don’t ask what they’re supposed to ask at the appropriate time. Yahweh has times when specific things are given, such as forgiveness. This is proven by Yeshua, who said “They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you” (Luke 19:44). There are specific times in which Elohim asks to be praised and worshipped so that He may attend to those specific things.

Time that is set apart for Yahweh, to worship and praise Him, isn’t reserved for Sabbath - He is present for you at all times, therefore, why not be willing to celebrate Him at all times? Daniel put time away to spend with the Lord, notably the fact that he prayed three times a day (Daniel 6:10). 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “pray continually”. One must make time to communicate and have an intimate relationship with Yahweh, such as David in Psalms 67:1 - 11, but also know that Yahweh has created time for you to draw near to Him…

Part 2 will be on Bible 101 next week!
