The Feast of Booths (Part II)

Let us rejoice, for the Feast of Tabernacle is here!

The Feast of Tabernacle stands as being the last of the Feasts of the Lord. It marks many things, notably the end, but also as a time to rejoice. Every single one of the Feasts of the Lord are important and there are many things that we believers can learn from them through living them.

Last week, we started analyzing the verse of Nehemiah 8:17- 18, which says

The entire assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in them. The sons of Israel had indeed not done so from the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day. And there was great rejoicing. He read from the book of the law of God daily, from the first day to the last day. And they celebrated the feast seven days, and on the eighth day there was a solemn assembly according to the ordinance.

- Nehemiah 8:17 - 18

Some may ask why didn’t I touch on the actual feast in the previous article. There’s a reason for that. I needed to set a precedent; to present that it is easy to return to the Lord and to celebrate His feasts, even if you have never done it before or it seems foreign to you. This, like the Isrealites of old. You need to listen to His commands, it’s one of the major elements of every feast.

What Nehemiah 8:17 - 18 is referring to as the Feast of Booths is the Feast talked about in Leviticus 23:33 - 43. It’s a remembrance of the era when Israel lived in tents. This is done after they taken the crops so all the work is done. During the seventh feast, they took a moment of rest. Remind you of anything?

This feast is a celebration of everything they’ve been able to accomplish with God, hence why it’s a feast of joy. They were to present themselves on the Lord with joy and food offerings. We, as believers, are called to present ourselves to the Lord with joy, disregarding ou r troubles because Yahweh will handle it.

Associated Bible Verses: Ezra 3:4, 2 Chronicles 7:8 - 10, Hebrews 11:9, Leviticus 23:33 - 43

Think About It: Have I taken the time to listen to the commandments of the Lord? Do I follow Him in faith, love and in truth? How do I follow Him? Do I come to His feasts joyfully?

Prayer: This week, pray so that you may live the Feast of Tabernacles like the Lord has envisioned it and commanded it. Consecrate time for His presence, to praise and worship Him and His holy name.
