Confession

Certain things happen in human history that make us cringe, once we look back upon them. It can sometimes be proof of changes in culture and beliefs. One of the things that make many believers feel this way is the idea of confession. Some still go to their local leaders and confess their sins to them, while others are horrified by the idea.

However, it’s a biblical concept, found in the book of 1 John, which states:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us for our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

- 1 John 1:9

It is true that we are supposed to confess our sins: it’s written plainly in the Bible. It even alludes to who we are supposed to confess to: Yahweh.

The reasoning behind it is because the only person who can forgive us for our sins and transgressions is Yahweh. It’s Him who can cleanse us of our unrighteousness and justify us. There is no man that was given that power, for that power is the difference between life and death. In fact, the Word even curses anyone who attempts to take that spot, that of being confided to, in Jeremiah 17:5.

He knows all and sees all, understands you and wants you to be able to live in righteousness. That requires you to confess to Him what you’ve done and truly repent. It exceeded asking for forgiveness, as you are seeking to change your way of life so you no longer fall to that sin. It’s what Yeshua told the adulterous woman in John 8:11. Go and sin no more.

Associated Bible Verses: Psalm 32:5, Proverbs 28:13, Psalm 51:2-5

Think About It: Do you have difficulty confessing or with the idea of it? Is confessing something you’ve already done in prayer? Do you have sins that you have difficulty with? If you’ve never confessed your sins, why is that?

Prayer: Take the time this week to confess your sins to the Lord. Pray so that you can change your ways and be righteous like He wants you to be. Repent for your wrongdoings.
