Carnal and Spiritual
The life of every living being on this Earth can be easily explained by saying that there are two parts: the spiritual and the carnal. The spiritual encompasses all that we cannot see, feel and touch with our physical senses. The physical is very different as it all that we can feel and understand with our basic and primal senses.
In the search for truth and life, there is only one that can bring us to that reality. The reading for this week is Romans 8:6, which explains:
For to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
- Romans 8:6
When Paul says that to be carnally minded is death, it’s a clear statement. The things that the body tells us to do will lead us to destruction. Following what “feels-good” now is tantamount to choosing destruction later. Yet, the spiritually minded one finds life and peace, for they choose to follow the Father and His commands before all other things, including the carnal desires within us all.
What’s even more telling in this situation is the fact that it is a choice, amongst other things. We get to choose everyday whether we follow our carnal desires or whether we fulfill what is spiritually good. Every choice counts in the eyes of Yahweh, for every choice is the difference between salvation and damnation.
Associated Bible Verses: Galatians 6:8, Psalms 119, Romans 7:11
Think About It: Is my mind one that focuses on carnal things or on spiritual ones? What choices do I make everyday that bring me closer to salvation? What choices do I make everyday that bring me closer to damnation? What can I do to avoid the choices that bring me closer to destruction?
Prayer: This week, pray so that the Father can change your mind and renew it. May He be the one who talks to you and presents you with His grace. I pray that your mind be spiritual and carnal, so that you may find life and peace.
