Forgiveness

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (Colossians 3:13)

Let us all celebrate the fact that the Feast of Atonement is almost upon us!

The Feast of Atonement is one of the seven feasts that the Lord created for his believers to celebrate and live. There are many different dimensions in what seems to be a very simple feast. It’s atonement - time to repent for the sins that we have committed and the times that we have transgressed the commandments of Yahweh.

However, the dimension in focus this week will be partly in accordance with this verse:

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

- Colossians 3:13

Colossians 3:13 gives us an entire message in itself, very integral to the feast of Atonement. This feast isn’t just about your relationship with the Lord, your God. This is also a feast that has to do with the people in your surroundings. The people in your life that you haven’t made up with. It’s the time in the year that the Lord has destined for you to repair those relationships and to be able to look ahead.

The reasoning behind is that your relationship with the Lord partially hinges upon your relationship with others.

How do you manage to have a good relationship with a God you have not seen, but enmity with your neighbor? It’s nonsensical in nature. Yeshua says in His prayer that the Father should “forgive us for our transgressions the same way that we forgive others”. That means that we must have good relationships with everyone: every little inch of animosity gone. As well, as we enter the end of the festival year and God’s presence with the Feast of Tabernacle, we must be clean and able to truly be with Him, not held back by the pain and hurt feelings of the past.

Associated Bible Verses: James 2:13, Mark 11:25, Leviticus 23:26:32

Think About It: Is there anyone in your life that you feel like you haven’t forgiven? Is there anyone in your life you feel like you should ask forgiveness to? What wrongs have you done to others that you haven’t forgiven yourself for? Is forgiveness something that is easy for you to do?

Prayer: This week, pray for the Feast of Forgiveness: so that you may be able to ask for forgiveness and give it as well. Pray for healing in that respect. Spend time with the Lord so that you can be examined by the Spirit and be made right with Him and all other people.

Sound the Trumpets!

Blow the ram’s horn at new moon, and again at full moon to call a festival! (Psalm 81:3)

Let us all celebrate the fact that the Feast of Trumpet is almost upon us!

This week, to celebrate this glorious feast of the Lord, we will go in depth into a verse that seems to be slightly off the subject, but is very important to the concept of the feast. The verse is found in the book of Psalm:

Blow the ram’s horn at new moon, and again at full moon to call a festival!

- Psalm 81:3

The passage in question is meant to show us the usage of the trumpet, or ram's horn: to announce what  is upon us. There’s a plethora of biblical examples that also present that same fact, the most famous being the fall of the walls of Jericho was announced by the sound of trumpets. They call upon a moment, one that should be signaled or signified.

In the case of the Feast of Trumpets, there are many different mysteries that surround it. Yet, what we know is that the children and elect of the Lord are meant to know the sound of Trumpet. They alert us to danger, call us to gather for celebrations, festivals and the like, all while preparing us for the end times, when the Lord will call for the trumpet to sound and the Son of Man will return.

Associated Bible verses: Psalms 98:6, 2 Chronicles 13:12, Leviticus 23:24 - 25

Think About It: Do I know the sound of the trumpet? Am I ready to hear the sound of the trumpet, when the time comes? How do I prepare myself for that day?

Prayer: This week, pray so that your spiritual ears be open to hear the Lord speak and His trumpet sound. Pray for spiritual awareness and understanding - discernment for when the time comes. Put your life in His hands and prepare for the Feast of Trumpets.

The Good Shepherd

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. (John 10:11)

As part of Western Civilisation, it isn’t atypical to be able to say that I’ve rarely been to a farm. If it wasn’t for preschool field trips - of which I have no recollection - I would say that anything relating to farming and the animals on it is foreign territory. The reasoning as to why I’m speaking about this is because of this week’s reading.

The reading for this week is that of John 10:11:

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

- John 1011

After having read it, I was perplexed. So curious was I, that I decided to research what a shepherd does.

The internet presented me with the following answer: “A shepherd's primary responsibility is the safety and welfare of the flock. Some flocks may include as many as 1,000 sheep. The shepherd will graze the animals, herding them to areas of good forage, and keeping a watchful eye out for poisonous plants.” What would that entail for the believers? Those who follow the Messiah?

That means that we are meant to observe our shepherd’s, Yeshua,  every move. We are meant to go where He wants us to go, as we are meant to be kept safe by Him. While we may be many believers, He tends to each and every single one of us individually. He gives us the bread of life, which can only come from Him, all while distancing us from poisonous plants. These plants could be false doctrines and sin.

We cannot live by our own power, for that is the road to death and damnation. Christ must be our Shepherd, the one who guides us and protects us

Associated Bible verses: John 10:14 - 15; Isaiah 40:11; Psalm 23; Revelation 7:17

Think About It: When does it happen to me to deviate from the Good Shepherd? Why do I deviate? How do I get back to the Shepherd? How can I spend more time in His presence?

Prayer: This week, focus on making Yeshua your Shepherd once more: focus on His word and following His commands. Let the small things that the Spirit of truth tell you to do become your actions and His grace become the song of your lips.

Judgement

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgement; that ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. (Philippians 1:9 - 10)

judge-hammer-judgement-court-royalty-free-thumbnail.jpg

There’s something in the word judgement. Studying words has made me understand that there is power in them and their definitions. This specific word, being a homonym, uses multiple definitions to convey a singular point. In biblical studies, this becomes extremely important so to understand specifically what the Lord is saying.

One of the clear examples of that comes in the book of Philippians 1:9-10. It is written:

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgement; that ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

- Philippians 1:9 - 10

The key word in this entire verse is the word judgement. The first interpretation of that word in this verse is the level of personal judgement. It is how we make considered decisions or come to sensible conclusions. As we know of our own sinful nature, our judgement isn’t perfect. The only way to have proper judgement is to base yourself purely and solely in the Word of God. It’s the entire context of the first part of the verse.

Now what adds complexity is the second definition of the word judgement. That would be the legal definition, which is a decision of a court or judge. It applies since Yahweh is the judge of all things and ruler of all. To abound more in knowledge. approve things that are excellent and be sincere without offence till the day of Christ is because you know the law and the judgement that the Lord is preparing for the end times.

Knowledge is powerful and judgement is important.

Associated Bible Verses: Colossians 1:9, 2 Peter 1:5 - 6, Philemon 1:6

Think About It: Do I base myself on my own judgements or Yahweh’s judgements? What do I know about God’s law? What decisions do I make that I don’t include the Lord in, and how do I do better?

Prayer: This week, focus on knowledge and God’s law. May you understand being able to live in the ways that He has planned for you. Pray so that the Lord may present yourself and fill you with His knowledge, wisdom and presence in your life.

God, Daily

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our Salvation. Selah. (Psalms 68:19)

Beautiful_light_(3337743039).jpg

To begin this weekly installment of Devos, I thought that I would introduce you to a sensory grounding technique. It’s called the 54321 method. You are supposed to be able to say 5 things you see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste. I would like to invite you to do that exercise with me now.

If you’ve done the exercise, I’d like you to realize that all of those things are able to happen because Yahweh allowed them to happen.

Yahweh is present in not just the big things in life like destroying the walls of cities and separating oceans. He is present in the smaller, seemingly delicate things in life.

This week, we get the chance to read Psalms 68:19 as our passage to guide us. It says:

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our Salvation. Selah.

- Psalms 68:19

The little things in life that God does for us, like give us the breath of life, often go ignored. We are numb to those little blessings, even though we shouldn’t be. Life is a precious thing that cannot be had again, therefore we should take the time to thank the Lord of Heaven and Earth for all of what He gives us.

He is a God that loves those that follow His commandments: let us thank Him for what He has given us.

Associated Bible verse: Isaiah 46:4, Lamentations 3:23, Psalms 103:1 -  22

Think About It: Do I thank God daily for the things that He gives me daily? What are the little things in life that I don’t thank Yahweh enough for? How can I show that I am truly grateful for what I have, not just with the Lord, but in general?

Prayer: Thank the Lord for the “smaller” blessings that He has put into your life this week. Present how grateful you are for even the things that seemingly get on your nerves. Show him gratitude.

The Power of a Word

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:21)

The world has a funny way to present itself, doesn’t it? In everyday situations, there are people who are unwittingly and unknowingly quoting scripture. I can remember that, as a kid, I was told that there was life and death in the tongue. Therefore, I was told I needed to be careful with what I said.

Little did I know, it would be the verse that we would be studying this week. The verse is in Proverbs 18:21, which says:

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

- Proverbs 18:21

As human beings, we are the only creature that God made in His image. In that, we are able to create just as He did. He did this by only using His word. Our word holds weight as well, in both the physical and spiritual world.

Allow me to return to the previously stated element of childhood. Children say the silliest things, right?  Those who work with children or have their own know that children can be impulsive. A child can tell you that they wish you were dead. Their word has created that reality in which you are dead, therefore you have to tell them to take it back, for there is power in that.

Us followers of Christ are in the same reality as adults. We are able to vanquish the enemy with the words in our prayer, for Yahweh put us above Him. Our words hold weight, therefore we must be careful to only use our words to spread love and not hatred.

Associated Bible Verses: Ephesians 4:29, Matthew 15:35 - 37, Colossians 4:6, James 3:6 - 9

Think About It: When have I used my words to raise the people around me? When have I used my words to destroy the people around me? Are my words instruments of love or of hate? When I speak, do people know that I am a child of God?

Prayer: Pray this week so that the Lord makes you understand how much power you have in your word. Present your words and thoughts to the Lord, so that they may be words of love and not hate, to build and not destroy. Praise Him for the power that He has given you through the Word.

True Wisdom

Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. (1 Corinthians 3:18)

What is true wisdom? The dictionary defines it as being “the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment; the quality of being wise.” Speaking to people who have acquired wisdom has presented me with the fact that wisdom is the ability to think in order to solve, based on knowledge, experience and facts. The only person that can give true wisdom is the Lord Himself, Yahweh.

This week, we dive into the book of 1 Corinthians 3:18 in order to get our verse of the week. It  states:

Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

- 1 Corinthians 3:18

There is a lot to dissect in this small passage. I will be brief in my summary. As explained earlier, true wisdom can only come from Yahweh. That wisdom can be translated into any language and situation. This is a reality because the Lord is all seeing, all-knowing and all powerful. Why we are fools to believe that we are wise is because we only have our one perspective on situations and at the most, glimpses of other people's realities. With human wisdom alone, we fail.

There is wisdom in the Word of God. In it, there is the solution to all things and all situations. We should be willing to ask for God’s wisdom in all situations, so that we may follow His way and come out alright. The wisdom of Yahweh has no equal, for He has no equal.

Associated Bible verses: Isaiah 5:21, Galatians 6:3, Proverbs 3:5

Think About It: When have I listened more to my own wisdom than the Lord’s wisdom? Have I fallen to the trap of my own pride by following my wisdom? What wisdom can I acquire from the Word of God today so that I can apply it in my life?

Prayer: Pray to the Lord this week so that you may acquire His wisdom. Present yourself to Him so that you may listen to Him. Make Him your leader and your counsel in every decision that you take in life.

Great, O Lord God

Wherefore thou art great, O Lord God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. (2 Samuel 7:22)

Allow me to get very personal with you. Growing up, I can remember car rides with one of my favorite relatives. It was in their car that I first listened to Michael W. Smith’s Worship album, a project that I still listen to today. They may not know it, but they unwittingly introduced me to Christ through praise and worship.

One of the many songs that I suppose that they introduced me to was the song “You Are Great” by Juanita Bynum, a song that takes directly from our verse this week: 2 Samuel 7:22:

Wherefore thou art great, O Lord God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

- 2 Samuel 7:22

The message of both the bible verse and song are the same: Yahweh is unique. He is more than the statues and representations made by the hands of man. He is the creator of the heavens and the Earth. Yahweh is the God who sent His own son to die for our sins. Who else is worthy of our praise and worship?

What does that verse mean for us? It means we are encouraged to praise His Holy name everyday, without fail. In every season of our lives, no matter the tribulations that we face, we should be able to turn to Him and give Him praise. There is always a reason to give Him our worship as there is no other being that can measure up to Him in any way.

Associated Bible Verses: Exodus 15:11, Psalm 86:8, 10, Deuteronomy 3:24, Micah 7:18

Think About It: How do you praise the Lord? Where do you put your praise and worship: is it in idols and fake gods of this world, or in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? What are some words that you can use to describe Yahweh for you?

Prayer: This week, focus on the greatness of Yahweh as our God and creator. Praise His holy Name with your heart and soul in true adoration. Pray this week so that you may receive what you have sown in Yeshua’s name, so that you may testify to His works.

The Word of God

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11)

I’ve read my fair share of comic books and associated media in my lifetime. Why is that relevant? It means that I have a basic understanding of what “world changing power” is. I’ve seen Thanos eliminate half the universe in Avengers: Infinity War with the infinity gauntlet. But I tell you that there is a power that is both real and even more powerful than that: the Word of God.

This week, we will have the pleasure of going over the wonderful verse of Isaiah 55:11, which says:

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

- Isaiah 55:11

There is no measuring of the power of the Word of God. Spoken by Yahweh Himself, it created the world in six days. It is through the Word that a number of miracles happened, which include that of the paralytic man in Capernaum in the book of John and the Jeroboam’s hand withered and restored. But most importantly, the Word became flesh in Yeshua, who died for our sins.

As believers of Yahweh, the Word of God should be the most important thing in our lives. It is how God communicates with us. It is how He gives us life and bread to continue to live. It is through His word that we are saved from our sinful nature. We should spend time reading the Bible and truly understanding the Word of God, it’s power and its impact in our lives.

Associated Bible Verses: Matthew 24:45, John 6:63, Deuteronomy 30:15 - 20

Think About It: Have you ever thought about how powerful the Word of God is? Do you follow the commandments, precepts and concepts that it tells you to? How much time do you spend meditating the Word?

Prayer: Take the time this week to pray about the Word of God. Pray so that the word of Yahweh - its laws, precepts and concepts - be inscribed in your heart. May the Lord present you with Words that will profoundly change your life by bringing you closer to Him and His truth. Praise Him for the Word that He has given you and give Him thanks.

The Glory of the Lord

Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight and the rough places plain. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it. (Isaiah 40:4 - 5)

sky-sun-east-rise.jpg

There is nothing in this world that can compare to the Glory of GOD. The Psalms say that it is better to spend a day in His courts - in His presence - than a thousand anywhere else. It is in those moments that the Lord speaks to you and presents himself to you.

This week, the verses that are being presented to us are those of Isaiah 40:4 - 5, which reads:

Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight and the rough places plain. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.

- Isaiah 40:4 - 5

This verse is understandably big, encompassing many secrets and truths that need to be uncovered. What we will be focusing on is the bigger picture. That picture is that of the Glory of God; it affects everything that is happening. It’s explicit in saying that the valleys, mountains and all that encompasses nature will change and rejoice in the glory of the Lord. We are to do the same.

We, as believers, are meant to continuously seek Yahweh and for those moments of intimacy with Him. We are to change our behavior and nature so that we may be in His holy presence. It’s why Moses was asked to remove His shoes when approaching the burning bush: he was entering a holy place to speak to an even holier God.

In the presence of His glory, we are to bow down and be humble; listen to what He wants to say to us and enjoy these moments with Him.

Associated verses: Ezekiel 21:26, Isaiah 42:15 - 16, Ezekiel 17:24-

Think about it: Do I make enough time to enter God’s presence everyday? Do I feel the glory of God in my life? Do I truly fulfill what He asks of me everyday?

Prayer: This week, pray so that you may have those moments of intimacy with the Lord. Pray so that you may feel His presence and glory in your life. Present yourself to Him, willing to listen and do what He asks of you.

King of Glory

Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah (Psalms 24:10)

There are so many ways that the Bible describes Yahweh. He is something to everyone: a Father, a provider, a healer and a judge amongst other things. There are specific names for everything that the Lord does.

This week is an adoration that finds itself in the book of Psalms, 24:10, which reads:

Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah

- Psalms 24:10

The Psalm is said to be written by King David, a man after the heart of Yahweh. He knew that praise and worship were necessary for all believers. He was known to dance the streets of Jerusalem in praise of the King of Kings. Why and how could he do that?

The reasoning is simple: he knew who He was praising and worshipping. As believers, we need to stop praising just because it’s a good song with a decent beat. We should be giving Him praise because we knew who Yahweh is to us and what He means to us. David knew that to Him, He was the King of Glory and the Lord of hosts, worthy of all worship and glory.

Knowing who God is to you and praising Him with your heart and soul  is the heart of worship in itself.

Associated verses: Titus 2:23, Matthew 25:31, Zechariah 2:8 - 11

Think about it: Who is Yahweh to you? How do you worship Him? How do you give Him praise? Do you see yourself giving God all of what He deserves? If not, how can you do more to praise Him everyday?

Prayer: Pray this week so that you can worship the King of Kings, Lord of hosts, with your heart and soul. Pray so that the Lord will teach you how to adore Him in spirit and in truth. Praise the Lord for being the King of Glory and the King in your life.

Song: Consider listening to “The Heart of Worship” by Michael W. Smith, a song that conveys the message beautifully.

Righteousness

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:10)

Jacopo_Bassano_-_The_Good_Samaritan_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg

At the beginning of one’s walk with God, there are certain bible verses that are repeated to you. One of the many series of verses are the beatitudes. They’re the blessings that Yeshua tells on His sermon on the Mound, which can be found in Matthew 5:3 - 12.

The verse that we are reading this week finds itself in Matthew 5:10, which states:

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.

- Matthew 5:10

There are two main concepts that I would like to tackle with you. The first off begins with the definition of the word ‘righteousness’. It is defined as being ‘’the quality of being morally right or justifiable.’ But justified by what? In fact, Yeshua was referring to God’s justice and His laws.

This leads to the second concept, that of following said laws. Yeshua knew that there would be people who would be persecuted for following it. Today, people may find it unpopular and “old-fashioned” to do so. They are living “under grace”. Therefore they shun those who follow the laws established by the Lord. But Yeshua never came to abolish it, in fact, he blessed those who followed it through the difficulties posed by men who followed their flesh and not the Spirit.

Associated verses: James 1:12, 1 Peter 3:13 - 14, Psalm 37:12, Revelations 2:10

Think about it: Do you follow the spirit or the flesh? Are you a person who would consider themselves righteous? Do you follow the law as the Lord prescribed them?

Prayer: This week, focus on what stops you from being righteous before God. Pray to Yahweh so that He may remove the things that make you fall into sin and lawlessness. Present yourself to Him, seeking His love and strength so that you may continue to persevere through persecution.

God's Anger and Love

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. (Psalms 30:5)

1280px-John_Martin_-_Sodom_and_Gomorrah.jpg

It took me a while to get to this verse. I was honestly perplexed by it: it caused me discomfort, to be honest. This week’s devotional will center around that discomfort and how it affected me.

The verse in question is Psalms 30:5

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

- Psalms 30:5

The way that I always saw Yahweh was that He was a benevolent God who wanted the best for me at all times. This verse changed that perspective, painting a light on how I sin and it affects Him. I upset Him even though He gave me no reason to do so. In essence, I’m the villain of the situation.

It also demonstrates His goodness though. Through true repentance, I can better myself and my relationship with Him. Like a parent chastising their child for taking the cookie out of the jar before dinner, it isn’t out of hate. In fact, it’s out of love for me that He tells me it’s wrong and that He is upset. The joy that comes is in the fact that I changed for the better, to please Him more everyday.

Associated biblical verses: Isaiah 54:7 - 8, 2 Corinthians 4:17

Think about it: In what instances do you anger Yahweh? Can you be honest with your faults and repent? Do you find ways to fix your mistakes and do better next time?

Prayer: This week, pray about pleasing Yahweh: how to avoid His anger. Pray to be able to abide by His laws and commandments. Pray so that you may be able to present yourself to Him when you do wrong and repent truthfully.

Turning to God

"Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other. (Isaiah 45:22)

A theme that I’ve always found particularly fascinating is the theme of turning to Yahweh. What does that mean? How does one find it within themselves to go towards an all-powerful creator and admit that they are sinful by nature and want to change? The idea always made perplexed

I think that the verse this week, Isaiah 45:22, was very helpful.

"Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.

- Isaiah 45:22

That verse made me understand. Allow me to contextualize it.

I knew a guy who crashed his father’s car. When I say crashed, I mean this car was out of commission. There was no repairing his car. Afterwards, I find myself conversing with him, and he told me something interesting. The first thought he had was to talk to his dad. Apologize, do right by him. It’s the same way we should be looking at our relationship with Yahweh.

It’s easy to mess up and do wrong: it’s harder to ask for forgiveness and repent. To change your past ways so that you are able to please Yahweh should be some of our main goals in life, because sin cannot approach the Lord. But this doesn’t just mean turning to Him when things go bad: we should turn to Him at all times.

Yeshua as a Servant

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2:7)

Here is “life” in a nutshell: me. It’s all about me. I am the star of my own television show, with the entire Earth serving as my audience. Sadly enough, for many people, that is their reality. I had to face the fact that I also lived, and sometimes fall back into, those ways. My ego was too big.

The reading this week was Philippians 2:7, where it says:

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.

- Philippians 2:7

This verse talks specifically about Yeshua: how He came to serve the purpose of the Father. He wasn’t boastful even though He was pure and without sin. Many of us would fall to that feeling of conceit, but he didn’t. Peter says that we are supposed to be like Christ (1 Peter 2:21) in what we do.

This entails that we must be servants of the Father, Yahweh. He must be the one who guides us, tells us what to do, when to do it and how. It means following His commandments, like Yeshua did during his time on Earth.

In perspective, our life is given to Him. It’s not our show anymore, but His. We do our work in the background and do what we are called upon to do. No stress, just praise and worship is involved. Isn’t that a better life than what was once given to us?

Associated verses: Isaiah 53, John 1:14, 1 Samuel 12:24, Matthew 6:24

Think about it: What do you want in your life? Do you believe that you are following the commandments of the Lord? Does Yahweh guide your life, or are you the main character in the show of your life?

Prayer: This week, focus on giving Yahweh that place that is due to Him. Give Him the honor and the glory that He deserves. Make yourself humble to be His servant.

Temptation

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. (Matthew 26:41)

In my life, I’ve realized that the Bible is the most striking book I will ever read. There is no compromise in it. In fact, it unknowingly became a very good mirror for me. What am I doing right? What am I doing wrong? Why do I fall and commit the same sins over and over again?

I took the time to read Matthew 26:41. To summarize the story, Yeshua is in Gethsemane to pray before he has to give his life for us. He returns to find the apostles that he brought with him asleep. He chastises them for not being able to stay away for a single hour of prayer while he went away. It’s then that he says

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

- Matthew 26:41

It hit me then that we want to be pure and without sin, but our bodies don’t let us. It takes prayer and time with Yahweh to be able to avoid sin, even in the little things. Simple things such as the little white lie you tell a child or the five cents extra that you got from the cashier. All sin is bad, therefore holiness and righteousness before the Lord should be our goal.

Associated verses: Romans 7:18-25, Genesis 4:7, Isaiah 26:8 - 9

Think about it: Where are areas in your life where you face temptation? How does this temptation affect your daily life? What verses can you use to fight the temptation that you face?

Prayer for this week: Pray so that Yahweh gives you the strength to pray without ceasing and to search for him relentlessly

Holy Spirit

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26)

It is a day in which we should rejoice and see love in the hearts of every true believer of Christ: it is Pentecost!

As an appointed festival of the Lord, we should be happy and excited to be able to receive the Holy Spirit and to celebrate His presence in our lives. The verse that we will be meditating this week, John 14:26, says this:

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

- John 14:26

What Yeshua is trying to tell us is two-pronged. Firstly, He is telling us that He will send the Holy Spirit to teach us all things. It means that we still have a lot of things to learn and a lot of elements that need to be revealed to us in the Word of God. As well, that very same Spirit is going to remind us of the words of Yeshua, the words of peace and truth that we need to have inscribed in our hearts.

It is only one of the many reasons that we should celebrate. The Lord gave us the Law and His only begotten son so that we may be able to live in righteousness. But now, He also gives us His spirit so that we are all able to follow His commands everyday. We are not able to do it by ourselves, with just the flesh and bones of our bodies. We need the Holy Spirit to accompany us on our daily walk of life so that we may not stumble and fall.

Associated Bible verses: John 14:26, Ephesians 1:13 - 14, Acts 2, Exodus 34:22 - 43

Think about it: How much time do I spend in my day with the Holy Spirit? Do I know what the Holy Spirit likes and does not like? Do I pay attention to the Holy Spirit when He speaks to me?

Prayer: This week, pray for the Holy Spirit. Pray so that He may reveal Himself to you and that you may go deeper into prayer and His presence. Present yourself to Him, knowing the truth that the Lord sent Him and that you are willing and wanting of His presence.
